| If you can work out the other five strings then C should have the same sound as the fifth fret on your newly G string. Much the same as D would have the same tuning as the A on standard tuning. |

Standard -EADGBE
Standard Half Step Down - Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
Standard Whole Step Down - D G C F A D
on your tuner, there maybe a flat 'b' symbol, press it once for half step and then once again for whole step. |

If you don't understand that then maybe you should consider a change of hobby. You asked for the basics and they were given to you.
I have a solution for you though if you can't be bothered learning basic theory. Go to the guitar shop. Get a pitch shift pedal. |

Excuse me? Your question has been answered by multiple people in the most basic and pedestrian way. How can I be supposed to help you when you have clearly indicated that you don't understand these simple answers to the question you have asked?
Here is my attempt to help you. Im going to have to spoonfeed you as its clear you need everything spelled out in greater detail. I will assume that you can tune to standard tuning. If you can't you might as well stop reading.
Straight D is the same as standard tuning only 2 half steps of 1 whole step lower in terms of tone depending on which way it is easier for you to look at it.
A half step is a fret. Imagine that you have your finger on the 5th fret on the low E string. If you were to move your finger one fret back onto the 4th fret then you would have moved a half step down. If you moved your finger to the 3rd fret you would have moved your finger a whole step.
The musical term for a half step is a semitone. The musical term for a whole step is a tone.
Now if you have followed up to this point what you need to do is take your guitar down a tone. This is called Straight D because it is a tone lower than Straight E which is your standard tuning. You have several options as to how to do this.
One is to use a tuner. As it has been pointed out most tuners have a button which flattens the sound. What this will look like is a back to front "b". On most tuners if you press that button twice so that 2 flats appear on the screen when you tune to standard pitch (EADGBE) then you will be in straight D.
This is not what I would recommend as I always advocate learning how to do something without the aid of tuners and such. If you know how to tune a guitar by ear then you won't have a problem. If you dont then you must learn. If you are familiar with how to get into drop D then it's easy enough.
Put your guitar into drop D by making your lowest string the same note as your 3rd (d) string. Then you do the same for your A instead you make it sound the same as your 4th (g) string. Then you tune up as you would normally do it by making the tone of your 3rd string sound the same as the 5th fret on your newly tuned 2nd string. Continue up as you normally would; not forgetting to tune your fifth string to the fourth fret on your 4th string as you normally would when tuning to standard.
Its very straightforward. If you cant understand this then you probably should have just asked your guitar teacher to demonstrate the concept for you. |
